Antibiotics Dangerous for Diarrhoea in Children Caused by E.Coli

Researchers have warned doctors that Antibiotics when given to children with diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli bacteria, may put the children at increased risk of developing a serious condition known as "Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome". The report appears on the website of The New England Journal of Medicine (www.nejm.org). Hemolytic-uremic syndrome, which occurs most commonly in children after a gastrointestinal infection, begins with vomiting and bloody diarrhea and can ultimately result in kidney failure. Based on this new study, physicians should avoid giving antibiotics to children with E. coli infections, principal author of the study Dr. Philip I. stated.
